General Practice Attorneys Online Marketing that Works

The internet has become the number one place where your potential new clients go to search for an attorney. More and more potential clients do everything on the internet.  Some of your potential new clients will sit in front of a computer all day long. Searching on yahoo or google is a very natural thing for them to do. When you have Lawyers that serve clients in several different areas of law, how can you reach all those different areas of the legal marketplace? With other types of advertizing it can be difficult.

With a dominating Internet presence and a FindLaw Web site, you can devote certain pages to specific areas of your practice. With a well-organized site, a potential client searching for a criminal defense attorney, for example, would not need to wade through information about medical malpractice.

It is challenging for the general practice firm to show the advantages to working with their firm. How can you quickly direct people to information about the legal matter that they are interested in? With a separate, in depth page on each area (or three or four pages on an area of particular importance), your potential client can quickly go to the information that is most important to them.

  • What are your practice areas? Potential clients want to know that you handle the area of law in which they need your counsel. If they search in the Yellow Pages or on the Internet for a "attorney," there are sometimes way to many options. If they narrow the search to "family lawyer," they still have plenty of options - and a greater chance of finding you if you have a family law page or several pages on your Web site.
  • Even in a general practice, be specific. A potential client is coming to you for one problem. Later, of course, that client may come back to your firm for help with other legal matters. For example, someone who comes to your firm for help with a business startup may return for help with estate planning or for a car accident personal injury.
  • Why should a site visitor select your law firm? What makes your firm different from another firm? Have you been serving clients in the area for a long time? Do you offer personal attention or flexible office hours? Do you have an excellent reputation in the community? Think about those things that differentiate you from your competition.
  • In what ways does your general practice benefit your clients? While some potential clients may prefer a lawyer focused on a specific area of law, there are ways of showing the value a long-term relationship with a law firm that will be there for them no matter what legal matters they are facing - personal injury, medical malpractice, divorce and family law estate planning, business, probate, immigration, business and commercial, collections law, landlord tenant and others.
